Planting pit preparation - Soil Percolation Test
Before you plant a tree you should perform a percolation test on the planting pit.
1. Fill the planting pit with 6” of water then wait until the next day, do not go onto next step until there is no more standing water.
2. Fill planting pit with another 6”of water after step 1 water is no longer pooling.
(we fill twice because if you do not, you are percolating water into dry soil, which is more of a measurement of capillary action in the soil then actual drainage/percolation)
3. It should take the standing water 10-60 min to drain 1”.
If it takes longer than 60 min for 1” to drain you should impliment a extended sump detail or a french drain detail.
